An enlightening experience

While doing my internship at Proprint Sevices, I was invited to attend the Esko 3rd annual Flexographic Packaging honours course in Ghent, Belgium. The course lasted 2 weeks and provided me with the opportunity to learn and explore Esko’s latest and greatest software, as well as experience the small city of Ghent and all it has to offer. With a population of around 260 000 people, the city of Ghent has a lot of history and was once the largest and richest city in all of Europe. The gothic architecture, beautiful cobblestone roads, bike lanes and delicious food are just some of the draws this wonderful city has to offer. The Belgian waffles, chocolate as well as the homemade jenever served at Dreupelkot were some of my favourites!

The Footprint

Flower, herb, and vegetable seeds are added to Bloomin’ artisanal, biodegradable paper in a way that retains their viability. Once planted, the paper will grow into a garden! Crafted from 100% post-industrial, recycled paper and dyed with all-natural, vegetable-based pigments this one of kind paper is as beautiful as it is environmentally friendly.  Bloomin’ seed paper is printed with water-based inks and use corn-based packaging when packaging is required.

The Process

Bloomin’ utilizes water soluble earth friendly inks to ensure the highest germination rates, print quality, and earth-friendly process. One of a kind inkjet technology utilizes 4 color CMYK process that is gently sprayed onto the seed paper. Unlike offset printing, which crushes all of the seeds under the pressure of the rollers, this process offers exceptional print quality without compromising the germination rates.  The original seed paper collection includes 21 bright, natural and pastel colors, available in a variety of sheet sizes, shapes – and even custom designs!

The Holiday Season is an exciting one. Retail stores try to keep pace with the needs of their customers, and brands try to stand out amongst the vibrant colours and messaging. This is a very competitive time of year, that requires a thoughtful approach.

This year, Mondelēz has focused their attention on the magic of entertaining. Their displays feature a handful of engaging recipes that are selected to evoke curiosity and engagement. Proprint was tasked with the design and production of this series.

The structural design team created a custom double bookcase header and side panels to add festive flare to existing POS displays. As part of their usual approach, each component was designed to be easy to assemble.

A Love Story

After hundreds of thousands of people turning their backs on Chipotle Mexican Grill, thanks to outbreaks of norovirus and salmonella, they had to find a way to redeem their customer service. They explained what exactly happened and what caused these problems to occur. Then, Chipotle sought out to find newer and fresher ingredients to use when making their delicious food. A year later, they are back on the market with safe and delicious ingredients that have been tested and closely watched for your protection and theirs.
