Proprint Summer Internship

Looking back on a great experience

Hello. My name is Aidan Kahane and I was an intern this summer at Proprint Services located in the GTA.  I have spent most of my time learning about the industry and working on projects to benefit my career in the future as well as get ahead in school. I am currently going into my second year at Ryerson University for Graphic Communications Management (GCM). We learn about all the different aspects of the printing industry such as design, pre-press, press, post-press, and marketing.

First Impression

When I first started working, I had this idea that I would be more in the way than helpful due to the fact that I didn’t have much to offer to this company. After the first week, I was busy doing important and productive things that helped the job process run smoother. Thus, concluding that I wouldn’t get in the way but instead lend a hand to those who needed help. Being this so called helper allowed me to see everything the company does and even teach me a few tricks to increase the speed and quality of my own work.  Employees were very welcoming and would often try to reserve me for a morning or afternoon. This would be because of a large order needing to be completed by a strict deadline or if someone wasn’t in on that specific day.

What did I do?

During my internship, I was able to take what I learned during my first year and apply it to real life as well as, I picked up a bunch of new tricks that will benefit me in school and push me ahead of my peers. While I was here, I cropped and aided in the design of point of sales displays, individually worked on multiple printing and cutting machines, went on field trips to do installations for large scale companies, and laminated, kitted, and packaged product to be shipped.

Sitting here on the last day of my internship really makes me reflect on what I have accomplished here. I have learnt so much in such a short period of time and had so much fun along the way. I’m so happy I was able to have this experience and can not wait to do it again next year.
